About This Episode
"Q&A: Have you ever thrown up at a recovery site?" is a listener question episode of Danske Drabssager (Danish Murder Cases), a podcast in which author and crime reporter Stine Bolther normally works through Danish homicide cases from beginning to end alongside experts in investigation, forensic medicine and forensic technology. In this instalment, she sets the usual format aside and passes a batch of audience questions to two of the show's regular contributors.
The questions range widely. How could one, in theory, commit the perfect murder? Is it possible to lift a dead person's fingerprints by placing their fingertips against your own fingers? Beyond DNA, what developments have genuinely improved the work of crime scene investigators and forensic pathologists? Why are bodies left where they lie high on Mount Everest? And, as the title asks, have the experts themselves ever stood at a site where a body was found that was so appalling it made them vomit?
In answering, the two guests draw threads back to specific cases they have worked on themselves. They also talk about where they find the inspiration for their books.
The experts taking part are Bent Hytholm Jensen, a former crime scene investigator, and Hans Petter Hougen, a professor of forensic medicine. Both draw on their professional knowledge and their experience of real cases. Bolther hosts, putting the listener questions to them.
The episode is number 10 in the Danske Drabssager series. It runs for 28 minutes and is available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
