About This Episode
"Killed on His First Night Out" (DRÆBT PÅ SIN FØRSTE BYTUR) is an episode of Danske Drabssager (Danish Homicide Cases), a Danish true crime podcast hosted by author and crime reporter Stine Bolther. It follows the case of a 19-year-old man whose first night out in town became his last.
Dressed up and ready for a fresh start, the young man was stabbed to death before the year 2019 had properly begun. He never made it home again.
The case was anything but straightforward. There were several stabbing victims, blurred CCTV footage, two groups of young men and a tangle of witness accounts. That was the picture facing investigators, forensic technicians and forensic pathologists in the hectic hours and days after the killing — a murky sequence of events in which even small details ended up carrying significant weight for how the case was later understood and presented.
In the episode, Stine Bolther works through the case with a panel of specialists: defence lawyer Jesper Storm Thygesen, former head of homicide Jens Møller Jensen, forensic technician Bent Hytholm Jensen and professor of forensic medicine Hans Petter Hougen. Together they look at how the evidence was gathered, what the physical traces and the medical findings could establish, and where the uncertainties lay.
The episode is number 8 in the series and runs for 31 minutes.
In Danske Drabssager, Stine Bolther goes through real homicide cases from beginning to end, with a particular focus on the investigation, forensic medicine and forensic technical work. The podcast is available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, and the full series can be found collected under the title Danske Drabssager.
