Danske Drabssager: Denmark's Premier Murder Case Podcast
How Stine Bolther's True Crime Series Dissects Real Danish Homicides
Danske Drabssager—Danish Murder Cases—is a true crime podcast that has become a fixture in Scandinavian true crime listening since its launch in 2019. Hosted by Stine Bolther, an accomplished crime journalist with over 25 years of experience covering legal and criminal matters, the series takes listeners through real Danish homicides with the precision of a criminal investigation file.
The podcast is produced by Bauer Media in collaboration with True Crime Agency and is available across major streaming platforms including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and RadioPlay. With 159 episodes to date and explicit content warnings, Danske Drabssager maintains an active release schedule that continues into 2025.
Each episode focuses on a single real Danish murder case, tracing the story from the initial crime through investigation and courtroom verdict. What distinguishes the series from typical true crime entertainment is its methodical approach and access to professionals directly involved in these cases. Bolther brings on forensic pathologists, criminal technicians, former murder investigators and chiefs, defense attorneys, and court psychiatrists to provide expert context on investigation methods, forensic analysis, evidence collection, and legal proceedings.
Stine Bolther herself is a substantial credential in Danish true crime circles. Beyond hosting Danske Drabssager and other podcasts, she has authored 14 to 15 books spanning both true crime and fiction genres. Her background as a radio and television host, combined with her journalism experience, gives her the interviewing skills and subject matter expertise to navigate complex criminal cases with both rigor and accessibility.
The cases covered on the podcast range from tragic to baffling. Notable episodes have examined a triple murder on Frederiksberg where three young men were killed while sleeping, the murder of a 23-year-old woman, and the death of a 74-year-old woman. Other episodes delve into cases marked by unexplained crime scenes and missing evidence—the kind of puzzles that kept investigators working for months or years.
For international audiences unfamiliar with Danske Drabssager, the podcast represents a distinctly Scandinavian approach to true crime storytelling. Rather than sensationalizing cases or focusing primarily on victim narratives or perpetrator psychology, the series emphasizes investigative procedure and the technical and legal machinery required to prosecute a murder. This makes it valuable not just for true crime enthusiasts, but for anyone interested in how criminal justice systems operate in practice.
The explicit content rating reflects the subject matter—these are real murders with real victims—but the tone remains journalistic rather than exploitative. Bolther's experience as a serious journalist comes through in episode construction and guest selection, suggesting that Danske Drabssager aims to educate as much as to captivate.
For English-speaking true crime fans seeking content beyond the dominant American podcast ecosystem, Danske Drabssager offers a refreshingly different geographic and professional perspective. While the podcast itself is in Danish, international listeners interested in forensic analysis, Scandinavian criminal justice, or simply excellent true crime storytelling from a seasoned journalist will find the series rewarding.
