About This Episode
"Afsløret #3: The Estate Owner's Crushing Defeat" is an episode of Afsløret, a Danish true crime podcast produced by the regional newspaper Vejle Amts Folkeblad, in which journalists investigate criminal cases that have left deep marks on their own part of the country. This instalment follows the prosecution of 64-year-old estate owner Hans Henrik Algreen-Ussing.
Algreen-Ussing stood accused of aggravated assault and of "vanvidskørsel" — a category of extreme dangerous driving under Danish law — as well as of having caused imminent danger to the life or limb of a 16-year-old boy.
The episode returns to the dark, cold November evening when the events unfolded at Tirsbæk Estate, a property of roughly 400 hectares on the northern shore of Vejle Fjord in eastern Jutland. What exactly happened that night is the central question the programme sets out to answer.
For the estate owner, a possible prison sentence was not the only thing at stake in the courtroom. He also risked losing his royal honorary titles, and the episode traces what consequences the case ultimately had for him.
Journalist Nicklas Ansbjerg Nielsen digs into the case together with host Maria Frellesen Pedersen. The episode runs for 20 minutes and is the third in the series.
