On March 5, a new Danish true crime documentary series lands on Netflix — and it hits close to home for many Danes.
A Friend, A Murderer tells the story of a tightly knit group of friends in a small Danish town whose bond slowly crumbles under the weight of suspicion and fear. It begins with a series of serious crimes: assault, kidnapping, and ultimately murder.
When police finally apprehend the perpetrator, it turns out to be someone the three friends Amanda, Nichlas and Kiri knew closely. The question that haunts them: how did they not see it coming?
"For years I feared the perpetrator was still out there, and that I could be the next victim," Amanda says in the series. "When I realized it was one of my closest friends, my world fell apart. I've come to understand that even the people you trust the most can be hiding a dark side."
The series explores the psychological aftermath of such a betrayal, seen through the eyes of those affected. It raises uncomfortable questions about what we really know about the people we think we know. A powerful and gripping series for anyone interested in Scandinavian true crime.
A Friend, A Murderer is available on Netflix from March 5, 2026.
