About This Episode
Episode 330 of the podcast brings together two separate cases of suspicious death, each examined in detail: one built on a doctor's nagging doubt, the other on a crime scene that left no room for doubt at all.
The first case begins with the death of a 40-year-old man who had endured a mysterious and agonising illness. No one could explain what was destroying him. When he finally died, his wife wanted him cremated quickly. But the doctors at the hospital where he had spent his last days of suffering had their suspicions — and they took them to the police. That conversation became the starting point for an eight-month investigation, kept entirely out of public view while detectives worked.
The second case moves to the United States, where a Danish woman was found dead on the floor of the television room of her home. It was her husband who found her. She lay face down in a pool of blood, partially undressed, her hands tied behind her back. Two months of investigation followed before a manhunt was launched.
The episode is structured so listeners can navigate between the two stories. Case one begins at 00:25:05, case two at 01:00:08.
Assistant editing is by Anders Eske. Music is by Bensound.
A note from the producers: the episode contains discussion of suicide. In Denmark, anyone experiencing acute suicidal thoughts is urged to call the emergency number 112. Livslinien, the Danish suicide prevention helpline, offers counselling from 11am to 5am on 70 201 201. Many local Danish psychiatric emergency units are open around the clock, including by telephone, and further information about acute help is available from Psykiatrifonden, the Danish Mental Health Fund.
