Suzy Lamplugh: The Man Suspected of Killing Her
The documentary examines one of Britain's most notorious cold cases: the disappearance of 25-year-old estate agent Suzy Lamplugh, who set off on 28 July 1986 to meet a client known only as 'Mr. Kipper' and never returned.
The film explores the investigation into the case, focusing in particular on John Cannan, a convicted rapist and murderer who quickly became the prime suspect in Suzy's disappearance. Cannan was serving a prison sentence for another assault at the time Suzy vanished, but was released shortly before her disappearance. Police have repeatedly tried to link him to the case through witness statements and circumstantial evidence.
The documentary reviews the evidence against Cannan, including witnesses who placed him near Suzy's last known whereabouts, as well as his behavioural patterns towards women. Suzy Lamplugh was officially declared dead in 1993, but her body has never been found.
Channel 5's 2002 documentary offers insight into the investigation and the frustrations that come with a case in which the prime suspect has never been charged with the crime, despite strong suspicions.
