Conversations with a Killer: The John Wayne Gacy Tapes
This Netflix documentary series examines the story of John Wayne Gacy, one of America's most notorious serial killers, who murdered at least 33 young men and boys during the 1970s. The series draws on more than 60 hours of previously unreleased audio recordings of conversations with Gacy from death row, in which he recounts his own life and crimes.
Outwardly, Gacy presented himself as a respected businessman and pillar of the community in the Chicago suburb of Des Plaines. He was known for performing as the clown "Pogo" at children's parties and had political connections. But behind the facade lurked a brutal killer, who lured victims to his home, where he tortured and murdered them before burying most of them in the crawl space beneath the house.
The documentary series combines Gacy's own voice recordings with interviews with survivors, victims' families, attorneys and investigators. It offers insight into the scale of the murders and the shocking 1978 discovery that revealed the true extent of Gacy's crimes. Gacy was executed in 1994.
