Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy
The documentary series Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy explores one of America's most notorious serial killers. John Wayne Gacy appeared to be a respected member of the Chicago community - a successful businessman who entertained children as the clown Pogo. But behind that facade lurked a brutal murderer.
Throughout the 1970s, Gacy murdered at least 33 young men and boys. Most of the victims were buried in the crawl space beneath his house, while others were dumped in the river. The series traces the murders, the investigation, and the trial of Gacy, who was executed in 1994.
The documentary series features interviews with survivors, investigators, and people who knew Gacy personally. Through their accounts, a portrait emerges of a man who managed to hide his crimes for years while living an apparently normal life.
Devil in Disguise offers insight into how Gacy was able to operate for so long without being detected, and examines the systemic failures that made his crimes possible. The series is available on the streaming service Peacock.
