About This Episode
What is this episode about?
The episode "07 Lies in Lismore | The black top" from Unravel Podcast Revisits 1988 Death of Gomeroi Teen Mark Haines covers a fresh inquest into Simone's disappearance and murder, examining alleged confessions and a renewed police investigation now in different hands. The coroner points to a piece of clothing Simone was wearing on the night of her death as a potential source of DNA evidence that could help solve the crime.
The episode also includes a statement from Gabi and Gustav Strobel, Simone's parents, disputing accounts given by Tobias Moran and Katrin Suckfuell. The Strobels reject the explanation that Tobias lied because police weren't taking Simone's disappearance seriously, noting his lies began "before anyone could have known a crime had occurred," and were described by the Coroner and Counsel Assisting as "persistent," "numerous," and "reprehensible." The statement recounts the 2009 breakdown of the families' relationship, when Katrin reportedly said, "You can torture me but I will never talk about that night," before leaving. Tobias and Katrin deny they are still lying and dispute other parts of the Strobels' account; Jens Martin did not respond to questions.
