The case, Mr. Cruel – uidentificeret gerningsmand bag overfald på børn i Melbourne, centers on an unidentified man dubbed "Mr Cruel," who carried out a string of home invasions and abductions targeting girls in Melbourne's northern and eastern suburbs between 1987 and 1991. Survivors included 10-year-old Sharon Wills, 13-year-old Nicola Lynas and an unnamed 11-year-old girl. Mr Cruel also became the prime suspect in the abduction and murder of 13-year-old Karmein Chan. Despite the scale of the investigation, the perpetrator was never identified or arrested, leaving the case unsolved to this day.
