Casefile is an Australian true crime podcast that has been running since January 2016. Each episode covers a single case from start to finish, delivered in scripted form without small talk, humour or guests. The podcast covers both solved and unsolved cases, with a primary focus on Australia, the UK and the US.
## Host
The host is deliberately anonymous and appears only as a voice. Listeners call him Casey, but his identity has never been revealed. The anonymity is part of the concept: the case should be the focus, not the narrator. The production is run by the company Casefile Presents, which also releases other documentary podcasts.
## Concept
Casefile is known for its thorough research and a subdued, almost monotone narrative style that lets the details speak for themselves. Episodes range from under an hour to multi-part series running several hours for the biggest cases. The first episode, released on 9 January 2016, covered the Wanda Beach murders in Sydney, and since then the podcast has covered cases such as the Port Arthur massacre, the Snowtown murders and the Claremont serial killer.
The podcast is released weekly and has passed several hundred episodes. It has been named an Apple Podcasts Best of every year from 2016 to 2023, won CastAway at the Australian Podcast Awards in 2017, and is featured on Spotify's list of the podcasts of the decade.
