Netflix Documentary Follows the Gabby Petito Case and Brian Laundrie
Netflix's new documentary series American Murder: Gabby Petito sheds light on one of the most talked-about crimes in recent times. In 2021, Gabby Petito, 22, vanished without a trace during a roadtrip across the United States with her fiancé Brian Laundrie. The case exploded on social media, where millions of people followed the search in real time.
The documentary series, consisting of three episodes, follows events from Petito's disappearance to the tragic discovery of her body in Bridger-Teton National Forest in Wyoming. Through police reports, body camera footage, and social media content, directors Julia Willoughby Nason and Michael Gasparro paint a detailed picture of the Gabby Petito case.
Brian Laundrie returned to Florida without Petito and disappeared himself shortly after. He was later found dead in Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park, having died by suicide. In a notebook, he admitted responsibility for Petito's death. The Netflix documentary examines the complex relationship between the two young people and raises questions about how the tragedy could have been prevented.
