Skip Hollandsworth reconstructs the 1884-1885 murders attributed to Austin's 'Servant Girl Annihilator,' a series of axe attacks representing a possible first documented American serial killer, predating Jack the Ripper. The book recreates a frontier city paralysed by fear and an entirely unsuccessful investigation that never identified a perpetrator.
