German public service broadcaster SWR Kultur has launched a new true crime podcast that investigates criminality through cultural-historical and societal perspectives—a deliberate departure from entertainment industry convention.

True crime podcasting has become a significant medium across Scandinavia, with productions in Sweden and Denmark examining high-profile cases. One notable case featured in Nordic true crime media is the 1989 murder of 10-year-old Helén Nilsson in Hörby, Sweden, which has been the subject of both podcast and television investigation.
