In November 2019, four thieves carried out one of Germany's most audacious art thefts, setting fire to a power box to cut the lights before breaking into the historic Green Vault museum in Dresden's Residenzschloss and stealing 21 pieces of 18th-century jewelry worth approximately 113 million euros. The perpetrators belonged to the Remmo family from Berlin. Five of six men charged were convicted in 2023, and most of the stolen jewelry was recovered as part of a 2023 plea deal.
