Prison Life Podcast is a documentary podcast series that takes listeners inside the complex world behind prison walls, built on authentic accounts and first-hand testimony from people with direct experience of the justice system. The programme examines what daily life is actually like behind bars, how internal power structures operate among those confined there, and the human stories that rarely find their way into established media coverage.

The series combines candid conversation with investigative journalism. Rather than treating incarceration as an abstract policy question, it hands the microphone to people living their lives inside the walls — and uses their experiences as a starting point for examining systemic problems within the prison system itself.

The subject matter ranges widely. Episodes address rehabilitation programmes and prison reform, but also the more personal territory of change and transformation, and the difficulties that face anyone attempting to return to society after a sentence. These are questions that sit at the intersection of criminal justice and ordinary human experience: what does a prison actually do to a person, what is meant to happen afterwards, and how far apart are those two things in practice?

At its core, the podcast sets out to humanise those affected by imprisonment. It is an explicit editorial aim of the series — to move past the categories of offender and inmate towards the individuals behind them, and in doing so to build a fuller understanding of how the justice system works and whom it affects. That ambition shapes the interview style, which favours open-ended, unguarded conversation over confrontation.

Prison Life Podcast is aimed at listeners with an interest in true crime, social justice and institutional reform. It occupies the ground where those three subjects meet: the crimes and cases that bring people into the system, the structural questions about how that system treats them, and the broader argument about what prisons are for.
