Tod einer Edelhure – Rosemarie Nitribitt
The documentary investigates one of West Germany's most sensational unsolved murder mysteries from the postwar economic-miracle era. On 1 November 1957, 24-year-old Rosemarie Nitribitt was found strangled in her luxury apartment in Frankfurt am Main.
Nitribitt was an exclusive prostitute whose clientele reportedly included prominent businessmen, politicians and the very elite of West German postwar society. Her mysterious death triggered a massive investigation, but the case was never solved despite extensive police work.
The documentary delves into the many theories about who was behind the murder and why the case was never solved. It focuses on the powerful interests who may have had reason to protect certain names, as well as the little black book of client names Nitribitt allegedly kept but which was never found.
The film also highlights the contrast between the official image of a rebuilt, moral West Germany and the corruption and double standards hidden behind that facade. Nitribitt's fate became a symbol of an era marked by hypocrisy, in which economic progress collided with traditional values.
