TV 2 Documentary Caught Doctor Posing as Priest During Patient Visit
Hidden footage captured a physician conducting religious rituals on a patient with no medical indication
Quick facts
A Danish TV 2 documentary series, God Is Your Doctor, aired in November 2024 and exposed hidden recordings of a doctor who visited a patient under the guise of being a priest — raising serious questions about professional boundaries and patients' right to neutral medical care.
What the Hidden Footage Showed
The recordings show the doctor together with a female pastor from a Pentecostal church, where the pastor conducts a pastoral counselling session with the patient, identified as Freya. In further footage, the doctor is seen holding Freya's hand and performing what appears to be a prayer of deliverance over her in an unintelligible tongue, while the female pastor simultaneously places her hand on the patient.
The hidden camera investigation was conducted both at the patient's home and inside a church, capturing the doctor's involvement in religious rituals that had no stated medical purpose.
Concerns Over Professional Boundaries
The documentary raises significant questions about where the line falls between a healthcare professional's personal beliefs and their duty to patients. A doctor operating covertly in a religious role during what could be perceived as patient contact blurs the boundary between medicine and religious coercion, critics argue.
The case has drawn attention to patients' rights and the ethics of informed consent in medical misconduct cases in Denmark and beyond.
