Colleen Stan, Held in Coffin 7 Years, Has Message for Jaycee Dugard
This documentary centers on Colleen Stan's extraordinary story and her message to Jaycee Dugard, who was kidnapped at age 11 in 1991 and held captive for 18 years.
Colleen Stan was kidnapped by Cameron and Janice Hooker in 1977 while hitchhiking in California. For seven years she was kept as a sex slave, spending much of that time locked inside a wooden coffin under their bed. She was subjected to systematic torture, control, and manipulation.
In the documentary, Stan shares her experiences and reflections, with particular focus on a message for Jaycee Dugard. Both women have survived years of isolation, violence, and psychological control, forging a unique bond between them.
Stan's case drew major attention when she finally escaped in 1984, after Janice Hooker helped her get away. Cameron Hooker was later convicted of kidnapping and sexual assault. Stan's incredible story of survival has since been the subject of numerous documentaries and books.
CBS News' exclusive interview offers a rare look at how victims of extreme, long-term captivity can find their way back to life, and the role that mutual understanding and support play in the healing process.
