48 Hours: Live to Tell: Murder on Prom Night
The documentary series '48 Hours: Live to Tell: Murder on Prom Night' covers the tragic 1989 Jeff Pelley case, in which four family members were brutally murdered in Lakeville, Indiana.
On April 29, 1989, Pastor Robert Pelley, his wife Dawn, and two of their daughters were found dead in their home - killed the night before Jeff Pelley's high school prom. Jeff, then 17 years old, quickly became the police's primary suspect, but charges were not filed until many years later.
The documentary follows the case's complex path through the decades. Jeff Pelley was not indicted until 2002, more than a decade after the murders. The case was marked by a lack of physical evidence and a lingering mystery over the exact timeline of when the murders actually took place.
In 2006, Jeff Pelley was convicted of the four murders, based primarily on circumstantial evidence and timing. His defense team has, however, maintained his innocence over the years, pointing to gaps in the evidence.
'48 Hours' presents extensive interviews, archival material, and expert analysis that shed light on every aspect of this controversial case, which still sparks debate over justice and evidence in American courts.
