The Real Lolita

Sarah Weinman uncovers the largely forgotten 1948 kidnapping of eleven-year-old Sally Horner of Camden, New Jersey, held captive for nearly two years by a predatory adult man. The book convincingly restores this overlooked victim to history and meticulously probes how Nabokov almost certainly knew of her case and wove its contours into his novel Lolita.
