Elaine Johnson

"Out from the Cold: Searching for Elaine" is a true crime podcast from Happy Tuesday Productions about the disappearance of Elaine Johnson from southern Sydney in early 1980. Across nine episodes, the series traces her life, her last known weeks and her family's decades-long search for answers.

The podcast 'Out from the Cold: Searching for Elaine' reopens one of Australia's most enduring cold cases: the disappearance of teenagers Elaine Johnson and Kerry Joel, last seen in Cronulla, Sydney, on 1 February 1980.

Australian investigative journalist Kate Kachor has spent more than two years mapping the disappearance of 17-year-old Elaine Johnson and 18-year-old Kerry Joel, last seen in Cronulla, Sydney, on 1 February 1980. The result is a new podcast series launching in 2026.

An informant contacts Elaine Johnson's sister with a dying man's claim about what happened to the missing women in the NSW Southern Tablelands.

The episode covers how NSW Police first linked Elaine Johnson and Kerry-Ann Joel's disappearances in 2004, and flawed searches made between 2004 and 2006.
