Down City

Leah Carroll reconstructs the intertwined deaths of both her parents: her mother murdered by mob-connected killers in Providence, Rhode Island, her father later destroyed by addiction. The memoir draws on court records, police files and family testimony to recover a childhood shaped entirely by loss, violence and secrets, asking what justice means when grief is inherited.
