Sandra Bullock's Stalker Dies in SWAT Standoff

Joshua James Corbett, the man convicted of stalking actress Sandra Bullock, died on May 2, 2018, during a standoff with law enforcement at his home in the 2400 block of Harmony Place in La Crescenta, California. Corbett's case had faced complications earlier when a judge halted proceedings in January 2017 due to concerns about his mental competence. By March, his bail was lowered from the initial $2.2 million, though he remained in custody.

On April 23, 2018, Corbett missed his probation progress report hearing. This absence triggered probation revocation and the issuance of a bench warrant for his arrest. Officers arrived at his La Crescenta home around 6:45 to 7 a.m. on May 2 to serve the warrant.

When police arrived, Corbett barricaded himself inside his residence. He refused to comply with officers' commands and made threats, claiming he possessed a weapon and stating his intention to shoot or kill law enforcement personnel. The severity of his threats prompted authorities to call in a SWAT team to manage the crisis.

What followed was a tense standoff lasting approximately five hours. The situation remained unresolved until around 1 p.m., when the standoff concluded. According to the Los Angeles County coroner and the LAPD, Corbett died from multiple self-inflicted cuts sustained during the incident. No gunshots were fired by officers during the standoff.
